The best tours in Agadir – Dunes, Atlantic and the Atlas

No. The earthquake of 1960 destroyed the city, including the 16th-century kasbah on the hill, of which only partly rebuilt walls remain. The Medina d’Agadir that tours visit was built in the 1990s by the architect Coco Polizzi and is a craft village, not an old quarter. For a real medina you need Marrakesh or Essaouira.

It is around 250 km and three to three and a half hours each way. That means six to seven hours in the car for four or five hours in a city where the medina alone rewards two days. It works as a taste. If Marrakesh is your main reason for coming to Morocco, staying a night there is the better plan.

Not in a day. The half-day “Mini Sahara” tours go to dune fields about an hour inland — real dunes, but not the sand sea of the photographs. Our whole inventory contains exactly two multi-day trips that reach the true Sahara, and they cost €127 and €309. Anything cheaper with “Sahara” in the title is the local dunes.

It depends on the season, and the listing photos rarely say so. The waterfalls and the deep pools run reliably in winter and after rain; at the end of a dry summer the gorge can be largely bare rock. If swimming is the point of your day, ask the operator about the current water level before you book.

The climbing is genuine — goats go up for the fruit in the dry season when the ground is bare. But since the early 2000s, roadside scenes on the Agadir–Essaouira road have also been staged for tips, with animals placed in trees and kept there. National Geographic reported on the practice and Moroccan authorities have moved against it. A tour that finds goats in a working argan grove is a different thing from a stop at a tree beside the tarmac.

Not for the tours on this site — almost all of them include hotel pickup, and that is the norm here rather than an extra. A car helps if you want to reach Taghazout, Paradise Valley or the coast south towards Legzira on your own schedule, because public connections in that direction are thin. Inside Agadir itself, taxis are cheap and plentiful.
