Quad Biking in Agadir: What the Listing Does Not Tell You

Quad biking is the largest single category in Agadir by some distance — 54 trips, and more than 12,000 reviews between them. The most-reviewed activity in the whole city is a quad safari, not a monument, not a market and not a boat.

That popularity means the category is also where the most assumptions get made. Here are the ones that cost people money or a morning.

The age rule that surprises families

Read the two most-reviewed quad listings and the same three lines appear in both:

• Children under 3 are not permitted at all.
• Children under 16 ride as passengers with an adult — they do not drive their own machine.
• Pregnant women are excluded, as is anyone who has been drinking.

That second line is the one that catches families. A confident fourteen-year-old is not getting a quad of their own here, whatever they have been promised. If riding rather than being carried is the point of the trip for your teenager, that is worth establishing before you pay rather than in a car park at eight in the morning.

These are the operators’ own conditions as published on their listings, and they vary between operators — so read the one you are actually booking, and message them if your group sits near a boundary.

“No licence required” — what that does and does not mean

Both of those listings state plainly that no driving licence is required for the activity. That is the operator telling you what they ask of you, and on a guided ride across private dunes and beach it is the normal arrangement in Morocco.

What it is not is a statement about insurance. What you are covered for, and what happens if you put the machine into a rock, is a separate question and the listing does not answer it. Ask the operator directly before the safety briefing — not because the answer is usually bad, but because the answer is usually available and almost nobody asks for it.

Why the prices spread so far

From €14.32 at the bottom to a median of €38.81 is a wide gap for what looks like one activity. It resolves into four different products:

• Two to four hours, shared, dunes and beach. The €15 to €18 end. The most-reviewed trip in the city sits here at €18.04 for four hours, with hotel pickup, a guide, helmet and goggles, a safety briefing and a tea break. Food beyond the tea is not included. Its itinerary gives 45 minutes out to Sidi Toual beach, two hours there and 45 minutes back.
• Quad plus something else. Sandboarding is the usual partner, at around the same price; one popular version at €16.13 adds a camel ride and tea in a Berber tent. These are the best value in the category if you only do one activity in Agadir.
• Longer rides inland. Four hours and up, further from the coast, fewer people.
• Private and buggy hire. Two-seat buggies and private guides, which is where the median gets dragged upward.

What is actually included, and what is not

The listings that say so include helmet and goggles, and you should treat a listing that does not mention them as a question to ask. Also standard: hotel pickup and drop-off, a guide, a safety briefing, and a stop for mint tea.

Neither of the two listings states a group size — which is exactly the thing to ask about. A quad line of twenty people moves at the speed of its most nervous rider and spends a lot of time waiting.

Not included, almost anywhere: food, tips, and photographs. Somebody will take pictures of you on the machine and offer them afterwards, in dirham, and that is a transaction rather than part of the trip.

What to wear, seriously

This is the part where listings say “comfortable clothes” and leave it there. Concretely:

• Closed shoes. Both of the listings read here write this into their conditions. Sandals on a quad are how people lose skin.
• Long sleeves and long trousers if you can bear them. You will be behind other machines, and what comes off their rear tyres goes onto you.
• Something over your face. A buff, a scarf, anything. The dust is fine, constant, and a recurring theme in the reviews.
• Sunglasses under the goggles are pointless; goggles over prescription glasses usually work.
• Leave the loose hat at the hotel. It will not survive.

Contact lens wearers have the worst time of it. If that is you, glasses under the goggles for this one morning.

Which trip, for whom

First time on a quad, travelling with someone who is nervous: the short shared beach and dune ride, three hours, at the bottom of the price range. The terrain is forgiving and the guides keep the pace to the group.

Travelling with a teenager under 16: the same, but book two seats and accept that they ride behind. Or look at 4x4 safaris, where everyone is a passenger and nobody feels shortchanged.

Want the dunes and only have one morning: quad plus sandboarding. One pickup, two activities, and you will have seen the coastal dunes properly.

Have ridden before and want to actually ride: the longer inland trips, and ask about group size before you book. This is the one place where paying more buys something real.
